UPDATE (October 23, 2021): A year ago I wrote the review down below and I still stand by it. I go to this Brake & Muffler to get my car fixed (even for the minor inconveniences) and leave knowing my car is in great shape. Thorough and honest checks are completed every time. To name a few out of the many outstanding staff - John, Bobby, Jacky, and Mark. Thank you all so much! Everyone at this Brake and Muffler location is by far the most honest, professional and friendliest. John and his team represent a crew you can rely on no matter what situation you get into! I've been to other auto body shops before and I can say I will always go back to the Port Coquitlam Brake and Muffler. I took my car into Budget this week for servicing after being referred by a family member. John was incredibly knowledgeable and transparent throughout the process. He helped discern between what needed to be fixed now and what wasn't as urgent. Not only did they fix my car's issues, but John also took the time to educate me on what to look for under the hood of my car going forward. This was the best experience i've ever had getting my car repaired. I am very happy with their work and will return in the future!

Just like to say a big thank you to the gang at budget. Had a spongy pedal and they did a thorough diagnosis, TWICE! By doing that they found the core problem and the cost was much less than first anticipated. Where do you get service like that?! Outstanding customer service, definitely above and beyond. John went out of his way to fit both my husband and I in without appointments (oil change and full service) on a busy Saturday. He also had them buff out a nasty wheel rub on my front door panel without us asking. On more than one occasion he gave up sales and told us the service wasn’t needed. I understand why they get such great reviews. We won’t go anywhere else now for anything maintenance related.

AMAZING !!! Absolutely 100% amazing genuine people. I don't know much about parts/cars and they didn't hesitate to make sure I understood. Showed me diagrams and exactly where in the car while it was running. Honda quoted me $1300 and they quoted me $350. So happy to have found my go-to car place!

I live in Whistler and plan my vehicle's maintenance around my trips to the lower mainland to see John, Bobby and the staff at Westwood Budget. I have been going to see them for years and have even towed my car 150+ kms so that they can get to it. There is nothing better than a mechanic that you can trust to do the job right, quickly and give you peace of mind that they aren't out to rip you off. As long as I have a truck or car that needs work. I'll be going to Budget and will continue to tell my friends to do the same.

Phoned John up and he said bring the car down. Arrived 3 hours before closing and he looked and said I can do it right now and replaced both the mufflers on my car and had me out of there before closing. Great shop and great guys working there. Would recommend anytime

I have been dealing with John at this location for over 10 years now And it has always been an amazing experience. He has helped me so many times over the decade with multiple vehicles And has always done thorough repairs above and beyond expectations even washing and Vacuuming my car after every time! Or doing the small things that get over looked like a lightbulb that burns out and goes unnoticed by me or my wiper blades that I neglected to change. He even changed a belt for me one time without me asking at NO EXTRA CHARGE and showed me the old one that was about to snap! Or simple things like tire pressures that the average person tends to ignore. He’s never tried to up sell me on something that I didn’t need and has always shown me step by step the work they have done providing detailed visuals. I told him my car was making a bad sound with the suspension and he walked me through what they found and managed to fix the old part instead of making me pay for a new one! I had to leave a review from my last experience, my girlfriends car died suddenly with no engine codes showing. I didn’t know what to do so I called john they were super booked that day but he managed to fit us in with a smile on his face. Tow truck arrived with a full lot of cars but he still took time to inspect it and since it didn’t have an engine light he offered to change a few parts he suspected it was with his money, install them and NOT CHARGE ME until we drove the car for a few days to make sure! Outstanding service thank you again John I will continue to go here for all my vehicle needs along with my family and friends cause they all agree he’s the best in the business For way less money than every shop they have tried before I hope this place is around for years to come. I have a good idea it will be because John really enjoys helping people! I would leave 10 stars if I could.

Highly recommend this shop! Genuine and good old fashioned customer service from the phone call to dropping in the same day. As soon as I arrived, a mechanic took my vehicle for a test drive, then walked me through his assessment back at the shop and showed me the brake pads were not the issue. Turned out not to be urgent. The owner explained a potential issue with warped rotors and answered my questions thoroughly so I could comfortably make a decision about the timing of the next service appointment. The work was handed off and managed by each team member quickly and efficiently. I appreciated that on a Saturday! Thank you.

If you are looking for a quality experience with your car/truck repairs, look no further than Mr. John Sinkie at Budget Brake and Auto Centres, on Westwood, in Coquitlam.
First and foremost, he is the most honest mechanic I have ever come across. He does not over state work needing to be done on your vehicle nor does he over charge.
His mechanics who work for him, are honest, hard-working and efficient. They get the job done and they get the job done right – the first time.
I have lived in the city of Vancouver and travelled all the way out to Coquitlam, just because I literally trust John with my life.
Perhaps you might think this is a bit “Over-dramatic” however when your life is your vehicle… and getting around is the mainstay of your business… trust me, it is literally “My Life”.
There was an incident, not too long ago, where my sister had taken her vehicle to a local shop that was going to charge her a few thousand dollars for this and that and those and these… You know how the story goes with many mechanics… Well, I called John and not only did he send a tow truck to have her vehicle picked up (her truck had broken down at the side of the road) and brought to his shop (the Tow Truck driver also waited with her, at the side of the road, for her friend to come pick her up before he left – a testament to the fact that John works with many other amazing professionals and only the best will do for his customers) but he took a look at her vehicle and told her that none of the previously quoted things needed to be done on her truck and that what she did need to have done would be 1/3 of the cost, originally quoted to her.
My entire family now goes to see John and his Crew. I will sing his praises – far and wide, for all to hear.
Again… and I cannot stress this enough, if you have a need of quality, hard-working, efficient auto service… Go. See. John!

I was shopping for a new and reliable service shop in June to take my vehicle to, and this is not an easy task being a single woman. The subject is out of my skill set and I was looking for a genuine and trustworthy service centre for all my auto needs. Budget Brake and Mufflers Port Coquitlam was mentioned a few times on a community FB page and I reluctantly (heavily dislike the vetting process!) gave them a call.

My first contact was with John who was assuring on the phone and made a timely appointment with me that week – unlike the dealership I had resigned myself to whose wait time is ridiculously long. I arrived, checked in, and John came out to meet me, introducing me to Mark, my service advisor. Great! Mark took over, listening about my vehicle history. Upon ensuring I would be comfortable while my car was being serviced, I was offered a ride to a nearby Winners to pass the time. Thoughtful!
I walked back and Mark took me through what he had found and done. With this baseline summer service done, I know what I need to keep an eye on and I was more comfortable taking my 2011 on the road this summer. I am also pretty sure my vehicle received a wash and I do believe Mark rain screened the windshield as a bonus. John drove by me as I was walking to my vehicle to leave, and stopped to ask how everything was. I appreciated that.

My car is older and I have it regularly serviced to keep it in safe and effective working order. I had stated my intent to both John and Mark which was to proactively keep this vehicle running well for as long as I can and am looking for a shop that will advise me how to do just that, without taking advantage of my limited knowledge of what is involved to do so. If all visits are as this initial one was, I think my search is over.

Thanks to John and Mark for a welcoming first visit. My summer road trips were thankfully uneventful car-wise. See you soon for a needed oil change…;)

We had excellent service from John Sinkie at Budget Brake and Muffler on Westwood St. in Coquitlam. He did a muffler pipe repair on my wife’s car, lent us a loaner car and had the car ready for pick up in an hour all this on a busy Saturday. John is very friendly and helpful, he explained in detail what needed to be done.
